Living in a imaginary world

Hey guys,

Do you ever forget reality, replacing it for a world in your head where everything works out.

Exams are passed with flying colours

Romance is more successful than a failure.

Where everything has worked.

I've noticed I'm doing it a lot at the moment. And it's a bit of problem.

When in your head you've already passed the test... Reality you haven't actually studied for it yet...

In your head you and your 'crush' are successfully dating/married/ have kids. Reality... They don't know your name.

Maybe one day what's in our head will become reality... But until that day... I have something great to keep me occupied

'That Girl' Aura

Hey Guys,

Its passed midnight on Halloween, October is over.

I've just stumbled in after a party and although it is seriously personal, I need to blog about it.

I've left that party feeling deflated, fat and ugly. Not just because some guys chose to make out with my friends rather than me. No, i learnt a long time ago that I cannot relay on a guy. I need to be myself.

It was the fact i noticed, properly the Aura certain girls had. It was almost like they could wink at someone who'd moments later be at there beck a call.

I guess i'm just tired of how much other people's actions affect me, even if they don't mean too.

Sometimes i wish this body wasnt mine.

#TamponTax

Hey Guys,

So in Britain right now, there has been growing support for a movement I have watched, supported and been part of for a while now.

Stop Taxing Sanitary Products like Pads and Tampons.

The reason I support this is because unlike other "luxury" items you can't stop having periods. Rather than being a choice pads, tampons etc are a necessity for preventing everything from being ruined, by the lining our uterus's. Sorry. TMI?

Anyway, the reason I why to bring it up is because personally i think this shows the small inequalities that still remain in society which now need to be uprooted and eradicated.

So yesterday when Commons voted against the tampon tax... i just felt kind of deflated. There was such momentum with this movement and for me it made so much sense... That to have so many, white, middle class and middle aged men who've never experienced a period it their whole life vote against it. Despite the fact women have to pay more money for things such as deodorant that men.

And to be honest. I'm sick of this everyday sexism that has just become normal in our society.

Being a Boss ass Bitch.

Hey Guys,

I'm writing this in a cocoon of duvet, eating Haribo while watching Love Actually in the comfiest jumper ever... Seriously its like comfort blessed us an became an object...This jumper.

Anyway, why have a gone all out in trying to perk myself up. Because I'm not in the best mood. That is an understatement but let's not dwell on it too much.

The root of this problem is in short, idiots.

But like the quote says I refuse to let them ruin my day. So i have tempted positivity out with sugar and cheesy jokes to prove to myself and them that I have gone over the idiots.

And in celebration of this I thought I would share with you guys this quote to let you overcome with the inevitable idiots that try and ruin your day, so instead you can go and be a boos ass bitch by going over them

I let you know the consequences,

" Deeds not Words"

Extra Large Movie Poster Image for Suffragette

Hey Guys,

Yesterday I finally had time to go and see the movie 'Suffragette'. I was not disappointed.

If your a bit confused the Suffragettes were a group of Women who campaigned for many decades in order to gain the right to vote. Their leader was Mrs Emmiline Pankhurst who coined the phrase: "Deeds not Words", which led to the controversial militant actions of the suffragettes such as cutting of telephone wires and smashing windows in order to make themselves heard.

It worked.

Selected women gained the vote in 1918 which started a chain reaction that meant all women eventually got from 1920 onwards.

The film charts Carey Mulligan's character Maud Watts and tracks how she became a suffragette.

It shows her in prison, rioting and in Darby Day ( thats how its spelt right?)

Anyway, I think it was a beautiful film... And yes I did cry...

Crying at Carrie Hope Fletcher

Hey Guys,

Now before I start this post, I want to apologise for being AFK (absent from Keyboard). I have no excuses and I'm so sorry.... I promise on Shakespeare's Quill I wil pick this up again

Such as this story...

Crying at Carrie Hope Fletcher.

I went to a Literate festival recently, near where I live and Carrie was one of the authors attending. After nervously clutching my book for about 20 minutes in the cramped corridor outside the venue, we were let in. I then spent a even more anxious 20 minutes waiting for her to arrive- then she did. Carrie starting speaking about her life, her book ( after all it was a literary festival) and her youtube channel. I was enthralled, after seeing this person grow on youtube for like three years now? and her in turn helping me grow it was literally like meeting a close friend who you knew loads about but she didn't know anything about you.

I managed to keep it together until someone asked a question which turned out to be my Kryptonite

Body Image.

As someone who's NEVER been good with this- and lets be honest no one really is. When Carrie answered in her usual upbeat way i just.. cried a little bit.

This was awkward because I was on the FRONT ROW. Yep. Not tucked away at the back when my emotional outburst could be quickly hidden with tissues, Oh no, I could be seen from all angles.
Luckily everyone was too busy focusing on the beacon that it Carrie, except from one stage hand who just looked at me, and stared, I could tell he was placing me in a mental file that said "Weird teenage fan-girl who cries at author". Great. So much for my cool and grown up exterior. Well, Let's be honest no- one was getting fooled by that....

Anyway- In conclusion after i had wiped away most the the mascara and eye-liner that had fallen down my face, I managed to meet Carrie who was so sweet and kind... Although I didn't really say what I wanted to say...

I just kinda 'Word Vomited' on her by saying "HI... You're great... I read all my friends are superheroes... Loved it... The Ending...Perfect..I love you...Bye"

Yep.

I'm so coherent.

It was not the beautifully put together conversation when Carrie would see we should be best friends... Instead I looked insane.

Anyway...Better luck next time?

Have you ever had an awkward fan moment... Please let em know to make me feel a little better....

Happy Birthday Elizabeth!

Hey Guys,

Today is the 7th of September which for those you don't know is Wlziabeth the firsts's birthday.

Technically it's her 482nd birthday but I wanted to tell you guys because she is a big inspiration for me.

I find her reign so interesting: she ruled for 44 years and managed to hold her own in front of her entirely male council.

She made amazing speeches and managed to calm the religious tension slightly by not " making windows into men's souls"

Her fashion was INCREDIBLE as she used symbolism and lavish materials to create these awe-inspiring gowns.

Lastly she proved everyone wrong. After surprisingly surviving Mary's reign, rumours about her and Thomas Seymour and also Robert Dudley and the fact her mother was Anne Boylen she became ' Gloriana' an icon.

If you want to find out more about her either read or watch Elizabeth by David Starkey or read some historical fiction- not quite as accurate but can paint a picture better...

So anyway I am off to read, watch and discover a bit more about her,

Love,

Living in the Moment

Hey Guys,

Sorry i haven't been around much recently but this Summer has been super busy... but awesome.

So i thought I'd recap it here partly so i can read this back and remember how much fun i had especially in the dreary days of exams...

Firstly I headed off to Cornwall for two weeks of Sun, sea and family; which was so needed after month and months of hard work. After two weeks of snorkeling, surfing, family ice creams and pasties. Although i forgot my phone it kind of worked out well cause it meant i appreciated being there a lot more.

Afterwards, i managed to find a job really close to my house as well and although it is pretty disgusting and tiring i managed to get one which i am pretty proud of and pleased... especially when i get my pay-check....

But also sprinkled into this extremely busy summer i have had a couple of little parties with my friends, it was so much fun. Firstly we meet just for a little afternoon then at 10 am i was about to head of to work and i got a little text which  basically said we were having a sleepover that night... But the best night HAD to be results night which was at my house and it was one of the best nights ever.... defiantly stored that in my brain's memory...

I also had couple of weekends in Edinburgh and London. I Edinburgh i saw some fringe shows including an Elizabeth 1st monologue which was amazing and also a couple of comedy shows and saw my great aunt and my Scottish part of my family which was lovely.

In London i went to see Benedict Cumberbatch as Hamlet at the Barbican which was INCREDIBLE and one of the best Shakespeare i ever did see. We also went to a service in Westminster Abbey in which i got all the feels because Elizabeth had her coronation and is buried.... Amongst many other people... So that is something i will never forget.

Lastly i had time to recuperate and rest. Something which is always needed after a long year at school but it has given me then energy and motivated to completely succeed in my last EVER year at school ( yeah buddy)

Thanks for reading,

see you soon,

How to Possibly, Maybe, Hopefully Get a Job.

Hey Guys,

Summer a bit weird isn't it.

After months of hoping, dreaming, wishing for it when it actually comes you are so tired al you want to do is sleep/ internet.

But it gets to the point when you realise what's Summer's 'gift' is.

Time.

Something you never get when you are at School...

But what to do with all this time. Well after you've watched every video ever made by either Dan, Phil or -insert you tuber of your choice here-. You might want to DO something that could earn you money down the line. AKA. a JOB....

This is what I have done with my Summer swapping duvets and internet for the stress and panic that comes with delivering food.

However, despite all this aching limbs, stress-filled shifts and awkward small talk with both customers and my fellow staff, I am still in dis-belief they hired me...

Not barbecue I un-hirable or anything it was just surprising.

So I thought I could share with you some things I learnt when writing the dreaded CV.

1. DO NOT be scared of it. If your scared you won't be able to 'sell yourself' as well and end up sounding awkward. My first draft was that.

2. Get a professional email- keep the one you made up for you MSN/ Facebook account when you 12 private... Time to ditch emails such as Lad69@gmail.com...

3. Split your CV up into sections.
For example mine were

  • profile- where I described my self in a few words - i think mine was about 60 words-
  • Education- i listed my secondary eduction and what GCSES i got and what A-levels i was predicted.
  • Achievements- this is literally where you list what things you have done from DofE to grade 1 on trumpet. Make sure each one shows of the aspects of your personality you described in your profile. For example if you said you were dedicated list the musical instrument you got up to Grade 6 in or the fact you were part of a drama/sport/art club for five years. Make sure everything you say reflects positively on you!
  • Interests- this can be where the person reading you CV understands you a little better- oh she enjoys reading history books- this makes them see you as a PERSON not a piece of paper and could lead them to think how you fight into their work environment.
  • Lastly Work Experience- this doesn't necessarily mean a paid job, I wrote about my work experience where I volunteered and described it in a bit more detail. And yes, Babysitting totally counts...
4. Don't be anxious that you sound too cocky- you've got to just shameless promote yourself as there is always going to be someone better...

5. Tune your CV into the job- if the job was at a bookshop highlight your interest in books, Sport? Mention your sport achievements.

6. Presentation incredibly important, use bullet points and sharp sentences to make it easy to read. Black font. Always.

7. And... Remember to check spellings!

I hope this helps get you a little summer job to give you a little money independence!

Phoneless for two weeks

Hey Guys,

Sorry I've been absent from the keyboard for a while, things as usual have been crazy here but I also had a little holiday to Cornwall.

However like numpty I left my phone at home so for the two weeks in Cornwall  was phone-less.

This meant no alarms, no photos, no contact with anyone other than my family. I thought I was going to go mad.

And at the start it was hard, not beng able to tell my frineds whats been happening, not knoing what they'd been up to, but then I kinda got used to it and it became refreshing.

When I went round my grandparents it wasn't for WiFi it was to talk to them, when I took pictures it was ones I really wanted because they were Polaroids.

Although I'd never give up my phone as i need it to talk to people having a little break reminded me of being a kid and just enjoying my holiday and spending time with everyone.

Let me know the longest you've been without a phone,

We are all Superheroes

Hey Guys,

I have just finished reading one of the best books I have ever read...

All My Friends are Superheroes: by Andrew Kaufman

I have been meaning to read this for a while so when for my birthday I got a Waterstones book-token I thought I'd take advantage of this and bought this small but wonderful book.and oh my goodness...

Ok, so imagine a world that it is full of superheroes... and non-superheroes... Tom is the latter but all his friends and even his fiancée - the Perfectionist- are superheroes. However, the twist is when the Perfectionist's ex-boyfriend Hypno hypnotises her into believing Tom is invisible and he has just a plane ride to convince her he's there...

The best thing about this book though is the creativity of the Superheroes he creates like the Spooner who goes to lonely people at night and just spoons them until they feel better. my favourite is one of Tom's old girlfriends who ahas the biggest plans but is the best procrastinator. Just read what happens. It is brilliant.

So because this is one of those books that leaves you with the best feeling ever it got me thinking of Superheroes and that we all have superpowers. For example I've decided my super is my imagination. Which although means I can dream nothing will never really happen. But my train rides will be a hell of a lot more interesting.

Remember what Albert Einstein said... ( I'll keep reminding myself this coming up to results day)

Any way let me know what your superpower is whether it is changing a nappy without puking or an expert on Netflix binges.

Freedom within Boundaries

Hey Guys,

Recently I read that in to conform to the rules i had to be less "individual".

I was confused. Surely individuality is celebrated now especially in the 21st century society...But then again probably not considering Women and Men are not paid equally... So it got me thinking. How can i be expected to be comfortable with myself and accept who I am if i can only be myself to a certain extent.

For example for the whole of my life i have been told i am to weird to function and that no guy will ever like me because of that... one of my friends even went as far as telling me to stop being myself in order to make me more desirable... Seriously?!

So this summer I have set myself a challenge.

To become myself.

This might sound strange, hipster-y or pretencions but I have never seriously considered who I am.

All our lives we are created by the labels other people place on us like: Mother, Daughter, Father, Brother, Girl, Boy, Gay, Straight, Weird, Ugly, Fat, Skinny, Moody.

While not all of the labels are bad they might not define who you really are inside

Which is why I want to find out who I am. Yeah, a lot of it will be the same... Like I know I will still love History, be a sister, be a daughter and a Friend and have a weakness for chocolate but I might discover that I am not fat or I can finally accept that I am different and that is okay now I have stopped being my own worst critic.

So although it is cheesy and cliché it is important to remember that  I and you if you reading this are struggling like I am to accept yourself and even though it seems impossible to love yourself.

I hope this helps.

Love,

LadyoftheRivers

Current Favourites

Hey Guys,

Guess who has finished their exams.... oh yeah... this girl...Very happy about that.

This does not only mean I get to go on Yoututbe more and feel less guilty about it but I now have enough time to take pictures for these posts rather than them being long, ranting posts.

So in celebration of that I thought I'd share with you some of the things I have been currently loving.

1. Bath Products.

I will forever love the smell of Original Source's Lime shower gel. It just smells amazing and even better you smell like that for long time after ward.

I have gotten back into Aussie products after buying them on a whim because they were on special offer. They make my hair so soft it's brilliant my only criticism make the bottles the same size, as I use more conditioner than shampoo even thought the conditioner bottle is smaller.

Simple is a classic, it moistures my face and rehydrates it to almost perfection. And I will be mixing with some sun-cream as the weather is getting warmer to product my sensitive skin.

2. Jewellery

I am really enjoying just wearing these two silver bracelets, my Pandora one will forever be my staple ( for more detail read my post here: http://www.ladyoftherivers.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/my-favourite-jewellery.html)

But a new edition is my silver Elizabeth 1st charm bracelet from Etsy ( link here:https://www.etsy.com/listing/112967066/the-queen-elizabeth-i-story-handmade?ref=shop_home_active_12 ) It is handmade by the shop owner Clare and she does a massive range of Tudor-ry jewellery which means I will be ordering a lot more.

3. Candles
Candles are most defiantly not just for winter, for this hotter season I love floral/ fruity scents such as this one Apple and Elderflower. I really enjoy St Eval Candles there scents are subtle but last a long time and stop my room smelling quite so gross.

4. Technology
The two technology things I have been loving is firstly my kindle specially  the Infernal Devices (like the Mortal Instruments but in my opinion better) as it means I can read heavy books without my bag breaking under the weight. I find kindles so good for travelling whether it's to and from school or more exotic locations. Trust me, if your a struggling bookworm go Kindle for those heavy - or embarrassing books-.

Secondly Instagram ( you know follow if you want it ruth_truscott) but I have just loved looking and sharing what everyone has been doing.

5. Randoms

A bit more randomly I have been loving my handmade book-laptop case. Made by CaseLibrary on Esty ( https://www.etsy.com/shop/CaseLibrary?ref=ss_profile) and can be made custom to your laptop. I already have fallen in love with my Harry Potter one and have had so many compliments.

I have also me enjoying my Tudor colouring in that my friend got for me as a joke but have turned out as a success as it is really therapeutic colouring in Henry VIII or Elizabeth 1st for a couple of minutes. Go on, try it out...

Hope this have given you some inspiration,

The best series of books i ever have read....

Hey Guys,

So some series of books can suck, I mean sometimes you read a book and think one book is enough but with other books that are just total page-turners and you just need more. more. more.

Which is why I thought I'd share with you guys some of my favourite series of books in the hope you will discover a whole other world...

1. Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan

This series honestly makes me so happy, I have mentioned the Lightning Thief- which is the first book- in the "Five Books I swear by" post (http://ladyoftherivers.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/the-five-books-i-swear-by.html) and every single book in this 5 book series is at good as that.  I freaking love them. The story is so believable ,to me anyway, which means I will happily read them again and again to enter once again Percy Jackson's world.

2. The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare

This is the less known series of books by Cassandra Clare, which I prefer to the original Mortal Instruments. These are set in Victorian England which is amazing because the love in the characters takes ages to form because they are all so polite. Even though it is set in a historical era is most defiantly not historical fiction. Although she added a little love triangle in the books they are written so well that the love triangle makes the book rather than take away from the books- which is what I feel happened with the Mortal Instruments-.

3. Narnia series by C.S. Lewis

These are the books my childhood is based off and questionably the best series ever written. Although i am a bit biased, I mean my middle name is Lucy after all... But i love these series because they just deliver an amazing world so perfectly. literally even reading the Magicians Nephew creates this expanse of land Aslan needs to fill- and that's not even his best book.

The best book in the whole series is of course The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I could write a whole blogpost about this book. What it means to me. How great it is. How much i love it.

But i wont... I will use the power of constraint and just say read the books. You will not be wasting your time.

4. Laura Ingles wilder books by Laura Ingles Wilder

These also are the foundation of many a childhood memory, creating games, trips and conversations because these books are also incredible. Written by a true American traveller in the 18th/19th century ( I haven't read them in a while so i can't remember the exact date) but they are so good. If you want to know what living life rough and with nature. Read these books, where getting class for a building they MADE by themselves was a massive deal.

Now I know i have left Harry Potter out but I think the world wide fan base and the billion dollar market sprung up around it shows its success.

Love,

The Dunce

Hey Guys,

Whoa, two posts in two days... I need to slow down...

But anyway seeing as you guys enjoy them here is another wordy, chatty and a little be deep blogpost.

I don't know if anyone of you have spotted but often in my posts there are some errors like a missed out letter or something that just didn't sound the right way-although it did in my head-.

This is because i am dyslexic ( seriously that I one hell of a word to spell, surely if we're dyslexic they should have given us n easier one to memorise and spell...)

But anyway I am one of the 375,000 pupils in the UK with dyslexia, so yeah extra time friends...

And for a long time I might have used dyslexia as an excuse, I'm not proud of it but in year 9 I used to beg and beg my teachers to let me give up Spanish as it was so hard... However, my teacher said I could not so  I didn't and last year I managed to get a B in my Spanish GCSE and went to Salamanca. Which meant I had the confidence to take for essay subjects this year...

So what I'm trying to say is that even though for the rest of my days I am going to have to deal with my friends sighing as I ask them for the millionth time to tell me that guaranteed is most defiantly NOT spelt with a Q ( I am still convinced it is), have my essays underlined with red as both my teachers and my computer remind me that punctuation is compulsory not optional...

Anyway, what I trying to say is that if you are one of the fortunate people like

  • Orlando Bloom
  • Albert Einstein
  • F. Scott. Fitzgerald
  • And of course me ( and my sister)
To name but a few... SO if you do feel like a bit of a dunce, do not panic, write everything under spell check if you are like me, get your friends to help you read books ( I know you have to suck up your pride but it could be worth it) and if it is maths I had no tips as I just got the most amount of teacher's help possible and went to every extra maths lesson going and in the end I got an A ( I must have done something right?)

I just wanted to let you know as this blog is about me blogging what I am doing at the moment and with exams happening dyslexia is something I have to battle especially hard right now.

Am I invisible?

Hey Guys,

Everything here is incredibly stressful, a levels have just started and I am panicking.

Hope if you are facing the dreaded exams, you're surviving and crushing it....

But. I wanted to take a break and blog about something that I'm questioning,

Am I invisible?

I don't know if you guys ever think this but seriously let me gives some examples...

I always get spoken over, I don't know if its because I have a quiet voice but if I try and speak louder I get told I'm shouting? But also in text form when I'm ignored time and time again if I am on a group chat or something I'm sorry if this sound like I'm complaining but it just been something I've often wondered about and i just a bit tired of being seen in this way.
Also I seem to be the stepping stone. This means I introduce certain friends to some of my other friends and then I'm rejected like mouldy cheese. This scenario has happened countless times but probably the most hurtful was recently when my long-time close friend has found a new group of friends at first I was the most supportive I have been and honestly encouraging her to go and hang out with them. Until. She literally threw that back in my face by telling me I was no longer fun to be around because I was panicking about exams and she would much rather be with her new friends and wished she was hanging out with them while spending time with me. This felt like a slap in the face. To many of you this probably sounds mundane and stupid to be angry over this but it was just one thing out of many examples I could give.

So I have come to you guys to ask you a question.

What can you do when you out grow a friend?

It's like those awesome clothes you had when you were younger but then one day you paused. looked at yourself in the mirror struggling to fit into that top, do the buttons on that coat and to move in those jeans. And knew, it as time to say goodbye.

And that feeling is like some friends. My mum calls the "fair-weather friends" cause they're only around for the good times, but when things go hairy they run away faster than the road-runner...

So in answer to those two questions.
Yes, i am going to be invisible, maybe it because I try to be kind so people think it is okay to step over you- anyone else with a kind-looking face get my problem?-.

But to outgrowing friends yeah, it sucks that it happens, I honestly don't know what I'm going to do know, maybe just see how it pans out.

Let me know if you ever struggle with these things...

Love,
Ladyoftherivers x

Sorry this was so melodramatic but blogging helps put things into perspective and  just love to have a rant and a blog...

Finding your passion.

Hey Guys,

Today I thought I'd write about something which is close to my heart. Having a passion.

I think it is so important of have that something which drives you on, makes you wake up on a rainy Monday morning and makes you want to strive forward and achieve.

For me this, as I have probably mentioned, is history specifically Tudors and Early Plantagenets. Whether it is watching, writing or reading about it, I just get this feeling that this is what I'm meant to do.

However recently I have been challenged in this area, this is because I am studying history for a-levels which are very soon ( you might have noticed this a I'm shortening my blogpost and not taking many blog pictures until they are over) so that means revision and tests. The tests I have go t back are so disheartening that I just wonder if my passion is still there.

But it is. So much so I made a couple of little Etsy purchases spurred on by the Tudors...

So what is the deep message of the this, just keep you passion alive, do something that increase your love for it and if you haven't found your passion, you will find it or realise it ( for the longest time I didn't believe history was a passion of mine I thought I was just a little interest. But then I realised I  really could not go without it)

I hope this helps or inspires anyone

Sorry the posts are so short  and a bit deep at the moment... Blame exams!

We all have that one friend...

Hey Guys,

Recently I've been noticing the many different aspects of my friend group, I then watched a couple of videos about " We all have that one friend..." and I thought it would be fun to share with you the friends I think I have in my friend group. If you can't spot these in your friends... maybe your that friend.

1. The friend who can eat anything and never gain wait. aka The metabolism I wished I had.

I defiantly have this friend. She is absolutely lovely but she does eat a sizeable amount of sugar. But never puts on any weight... she doesn't even work out. I feel like I just stare at he with envy when she eats Doughnuts and Haribo for breakfast with a Chocolate spread sandwiches for break, a big-ass meal with an afters for lunch coupled with coke and crisps....
I mean, she eats all this and still looks great... I can't even eat all that and if I did, I'm sure I get like mistaken for a whale or something...

2. The friend who knows everything and HAS to tell you.

This one doesn't have to be top of their class but just has a bunch of random facts in their head which will make anything you say invalid. I surprisingly have two of these friends and end up avoiding having arguments or any type of discussion for fear of being cut down by their many, many, many, facts...

3. The friend who obsessed with that one thing.

This was for a long time me in a friend group ( Whoo, Tudors) but the responsibility now has shifted onto my friend's shoulder. She is obsessed about her music and bands. Cue posters, stickers, merch, t-shirts just everything under the sun that relates to at least one of her bands. I just feel bad I can't join in her mourning for MCR or almost weeing herself when a new all time low song comes out.

4. The friend who forgets everything.

Whether its birthdays, meetings, or even my name. I have a friend who has a brain like a sieve. But suddenly in exam season when the whole year she's been forgetting all the friend stuff... she remember everything for her exam. But still complains her memory is awful.

5. The happy friend.

This friend can be both a curse and a blessing. When your in a grump she is the last face you want to see. Her happy, positive vibes only persona is not something you want to be greeted with when its a Monday morning and you have the mother of all hangovers. How ever if you want a pep talk, to laugh until you cry and have a good old natter to this friend is the best.

6. The woe is me friend

This is the friend who's glass is defiantly half empty. No matter how many biscuits and cups of tea you make for this person they will never see the brighter side in life. However, just when you are thinking they're depressed they can have surprising mood swings.

These are just a few friends I've spotted let me know yours in the comment and I hope you have a great day

The General Election...

Hey Guys,

If you live in the UK you hopefully will be aware that there is an election on the 7th of May to decide who will run our country for the next five years.

As a politics student I think it is vital we participate as much as possible in order to choose who runs our country.

I know people like Russell Brand say we shouldn't vote by personally I think that we can't have a say when we don't put forward an opinion or fight the ruling powers

Women, listen up, I want to personally say vote because of what the suffragettes fought for, without them many of us ( and many men) would not have the vote. So I want to vote in order to show my solidarity with the move.

But back to the election. For all you over 18s please make the decision either Greens, Labour, Liberal Democrats, Conservatives. Think before you vote. Please don't throw your vote away on a party. Read the manifestos and make an educated guess. I know this is heavy but I think it is an important topic.

Hope this helps or at least informs you about the biggest event in 2015.

Not Ready for This.

He Guys,

This month has been very broken up for blogposts as I have been away a lot because I firstly went  Sicily and then a family holiday to Cornwall. Where there is zero internet but now I am back.
 But school. Tomorrow. Panicking.
So I thought I would take a few minutes to write a quick blogpost.

I don't know if anyone is ever ready to go back to school- I know I never am, so I thought we can support each other if you too are going back to school/uni and are facing the dreaded exams...

So here is an inspirational quote which I hope helps you (even if only a little bit)

So I thought this would be a good one to start with as it kinda helps me hope that even though life is a bit rubbish and hard at the moment you still can have good moments ( getting a bit cheesy now...Sorry...)

Hope you liked this short little update-y post.

Review of Moroccan Oil

Hey Guys,

Recently my mum won some Moroccan oil products in a raffle-thingy.... And oh my word... it has legitimately changed my life. ( I know that's a bit of a weird thing to say but it shows how good these products are.) This is because my hair is long, dry and I have bleached then ends as well so I was excited to try this as it promised it could improve my mess of hair.

I am actually surprised how good it was, this is because I was not part of the hype when it first came out and normally when a hype happens the product is normally good, but never as good as the hype promises. Until now.

I firstly tried the oil. I have been meaning to buy this for a while as I go swimming a lot so my hair is slowly turning disgusting from all the chlorine...And this has saved my hair. I'm still trying to find the best way to put it in my hair, I go from using my fingers or a Kent smoothing brush. But if you guys have any suggestions or want a tutorial let me know.

But it the Moroccan oil excitement didn't stop there because we also have the shampoo and conditioner which are really good for cleansing and conditioning your hair as my hair feels incredibly soft when I use it and not at all bristly. Which is what normally happens.

I also find using all these products makes my hair less greasy and it is also detangled, which means I can wash my hair a little bit less and when I do I don't always have to yank a comb through it.

However, there is one thing I would change. The smell. I don't particularly like it although my mum does. I would prefer something like apple, lime, just a more fruity fragrance  (that's what I like in my shampoo) but not coconut... I hate the smell of coconut...

Anyway overall I think it is a darn good product and I urge you to try it.

Check Shirts and Awkward Poses.

Hey Guys,

So I thought my blog has been a little bit history heavy, with the museum trip and then Sicily so, to break it up I thought I do a short outfit post. Which is something I have never done before, to show you what I have been specifically loving in the run up to spring.

I do just have to say, this outfit is what I have been loving, styled to make myself feel good rather than other people. Also I know I do not have the size 4 perfect model figure but as someone who struggles with body image I thought this would be a good challenge for me to conquer and see if I can inspire others like me to do the same.

I do apoligise for my bad posing... As shown here...
  •  Shirt: Look Human: Female Equality Vest
  • Check  Shirt: Tommy Hilfiger
  • Jeans: New Look

Hope you enjoyed this new type of blogging

Sicilian Snapshots...

Hey Guys,

Sorry for not blogging last week but I was in Sicily on a school trip, which was amazing, seeing all the different temples and sites.

I took a few photos although only with my phone as I didn't want to bring the heavy, fancy-smancy camera., so sorry about the lack of quality!

Day One:

This is the first temple we saw, for those who are interested it is a Doric temple, I think the god it's dedicated to is unknown. It was really fanstinating to look at especially as it mostly together so the we could see how the peristyle worked.

We also saw a quary where random bits of temples were just left there, uncompleted for what ever reason. Amazing to think what the would have become or how they are still there after 2000 years. This is me next to a column drum. Just for comprassion, to show how massive they would have been.

Day Two:
This is an alomost complete temple, presevereved because it was turned into a Christian church. The massive statue in fornt is a bronze Ichurous- the one who flew to close to the sun- ( yeah I know, that bit is a little bit out of proportion...)

Some of the temples were not as well preserved, this colonnade is the only thing left of the temple of Zeus. Still interesting though.

Day Three:

These mosaics are all from a Roman Emperor's house, wonderfully and amazingly preserved at every step there were beautiful mosaics.
This is a man made cave gives amaing effects with noise, one person sang in here and it was an incredible experience...

Day Four:

These are a couple of pictures for a cathedral that was made around a Doric temple. Which was mesmerizing, if you ever go to Sicily, go to the Cathedral of St. Lucy. - Also does anyone know the story of this statue, she's standing on a man's head, any ideas?
Then... this is a door covered in cat pictures... I was impressed.

I hope you enjoyed these little glimpses into my holiday...now back to revision... joys...

A day in the Museum

Hey Guys,

Today I darted off (with my class) to the British Museum in London to view some of the Parthenon sculpture, I took a few crappy photos on my phone, just to give you an idea of what's in there.

The sculpture of the Parthenon was so interesting especially after studying it for a term, and I gave me an idea of what it really looked like on the temple... rather than just a small, crappy image from Google.

We then got a chance to look around the whole museum and there were loads from different places... like Sudan and Iraq but I might have drifted towards the Europe section in the hope of finding some Tudor stuff, we got close as we found Ward of the Roses and Edward IV's sword.

Interesting areas include the money section where I saw fake pound coins and loads of old coins ( me and my fried had a little discussion about how talented Romans must have been to create these intricate designs on coin where they didn't have the machinery we have.)

Anyway, I love museums so I hope you enjoyed this little short blog, and have a good week,

Travel Essentials...

Hey Guys,

If you did not know this next Saturday I'm off to Sicily for about 4 days, to soak in some culture and sun before Easter.

The I'm so excited for this trip especially because I go on a plane. Now for some of you a plane is probably your worst nightmare and I am actually anxious about flying but it is counteracted with my excitement for just going on  a plane. This is probably because I've only been on around 2 plane journeys in my life, one to America when I was 9 and basically slept and watched movies the whole time and last summer to Spain, it was literally 2 hours long. Although this one is still only 3 and half hours long I'm still excited just to experience a plane ride again... ( although not the anxious part of it...)

So because of all this I thought I would share with you guys some of my essentials I am taking for travelling, if you don't fly often like me this could be helpful to give you some ideas of what is necessary.

Make-up

Here is literally all I'm bringing. Basics. Natural. quick. You don't want to be faffing about with a million different eye shadows you want to be out there in the sun. I use that palette for my eyes rather than eyebrows which is what it was made for but the palette has shimmer shades for your matte eyebrows. (am I the only one who finds this weird?) but I love it as it just has everything in one place. Lip balm SPF is a must if you are going somewhere hot, this Nivea one is hydrating and SPF 15, and is pretty good...

Cameras

I love the look of polaroids but unfortunately there are only 10 in each film package and I only have 18 photos left, so I went out a picked up a cheepy disposable camera, this has 27 photos and is much lighter, which means for the day I will take the disposable one and then for the evenings I have my big ass polaroid camera...

Pale Skin Protection....

I know, I know it is not summer but because I have pale, pale, fair skin which gets burnt by the slightest bit of sun... So I need to come prepared... Sun cream (factor 50 of course), Sunglasses to protect me from going blind in the sun ( literally I'm like a bat)

Lastly Revision...
I need to revise. I need to pass these exams. So yep. Bringing them notepads along..

I hope this helps... And I'll see you soon

Top Five Disney Songs

Hey Guys,

This is a pretty random midweek blog post but its Disney so its fine...

During the endless days of revision I often need pick me up songs that make me smile for a few minutes and give me a welcome break and at the moment they happen to be straight up Disney songs ( which I am not complaining about), so I thought i'd give you guys a run through on my top five Disney songs....

1. Tangled- At last I see the light

I'm sorry but how good is this song, and once its in your head I will not leave. I actually thing tangled is one of the best movies they have made, seriously especially for modern Disney it has really outdone itself and some of the music like this song are just so happy and positive...

2.  Anything from Hercules...
I know this technically isn't "one" song, but if it had to be then over half of my top Disney songs would be from this film... whether its Zero to Hero, I wont say im in love or I will go the distance I will always sing loud and proud cause I was grown up from this film so watching it brings back a multitude of memories!

3. Step in Time- Mary Poppins
Me and my sister used to watch this over and over again to try and learn the dance moves, but like Hercules I could choose any song from Mary Poppins and love it from Feed the birds to Fidelity Fiduciary Bank. The songs are just genius...

4. Let it go- Frozen
I know, I know, Frozen... but I love the movie and I love how this song is all about Girl Power... read my last post to know why girl power is the best... Anyway this song I feel is just written about me, I don't have a Prince Charming in my life, I love winter so the cold doesn't both me anyway, and I conceal my emotions for ages then they just come out in a massive ice explosion of pent up feelings...

 5. You've got a friend in me-  Toy Story
This song makes me cry... Every time. Like Hercules and Mary Poppins Toy Story was my childhood, I even had a Woody and Bull's-eye toy... Yes I used  to see if they'd move when I left the room... I used sing this to my siblings and my best friends and my toys... Oh, I will never get bored of this song...

So those are my top five Disney songs at the moment, let me know yours in the comments, I would love to have a good ol' Disney natter...

Happy International Women's Day!

Hey Guys

It is March the 8th which is INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!!

And for this I thought I'd share some women who inspire me, actions they've done which have inspired me and just generally girl power.

Before I start I am going say I am a feminist. Before you all sigh and think I'm like a man hater or something... I'm not.

Feminist means:  a collection of movements and ideologies that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve equal political, economic, cultural, personal, and social rights for women. This includes seeking to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment.

Its for EQUALITY not for one gender above another....

And I just want everyone to have equal rights, I want girls all over the world to be free to go to school and as such become whomever they want to be and be paid the same as their male counterpart. I want men to feel like it's ok to be a midwife or a stay at home dad and I want men to realise it is not the women's job to cook and clean. And for rape culture to change. That's why I'm a feminist.

Ok so firstly

the Pankhurst family, Here is Emmeline, Christabel and Sylvia Pankhurst, they all fought individually and together with the suffragettes for Women's votes. I am in total awe of the suffragettes their actions, their bravery combined with their complete determination for the cause. If I am able to inspire people half as much as they did, I would be incredibly happy.

Secondly

I am reading Malala's book right now, and every page is inspiring, I would love to reach out to the Women without education as she has done. Her morals of education for everyone has opened my eyes to the lack of it, and I would love to change and work towards a brighter future, for both genders.

Carrie Hope Fletcher

she has inspired me I a different way, to be more confident, and as such I am able to talk about feminism with my friends, classmates and write this blogpost. This shows inspiration doesn't have to be directly about what you want to inspire but still can help you. As also shown with Lucy Worsley (another inspirational woman... )

I have so many more inspirational women, quotes and charities I would love to share with you guys, so if you do think that is something you would like to see leave and comment and even give me a follow if you want...

Anyway feminism is something close to my heart and something I have found incredibly helpful and inspiring in y life. And I hope you guys will too.

February Favourites...

Hey Guys,

I admit I have not been on it in February for blogging... I could list the excuses such as mocks and the general stress... but instead I`m just going to apologise and get back into blogging by doing a.... monthly favourites (cue applause and cheering)

So firstly I have been loving a few gadgets this month...

This is my Blend Active personal blender, from Breville ( the site was amazon, there are many different types, just search them up and see which one you prefer). I got this as my previous blender was on its last legs and took ages to set up and clean so I really needed a new especially as I am giving up sugar for Lent (gulp) and trying to raise my natural sugar... e.g. more fruit... so I have been making tons of smoothies ( I will do a blogpost for you on my top smoothie recipes..) The reason I having been loving this is because it is so easy, like pop the fruit in, put on the lid and the press the button. If you love smoothies, milkshakes or even protein shakes then they can all be made in this and I urge you get it ( not sponsored but if you want to.)

Secondly my laptop which is a HP pavilion x360 (in grey) which means I can transform it from a laptop to a tablet...So cool... This was because my previous laptop had been going steady for 6 years but was slowly dying... So my grandparents kindly gave me money for my 11.6inch beautiful new laptop... With touch screen and the thinness and lightness it is just great. And it means I can actually use it as a laptop... Yay!...Very pleased about that one.

Next a little bit of beauty,

First, Simple kind to skin hydrating light moisturizer. This is my favourite moisturizer of all time, its is light and hydrating, it also works really well if you have sensitive skin as it refreshes your face and leaves it soft for almost twelve hours. When I don't have this one I notice a significance difference ( aka, I look like a snake out of water all dry and scaly...)

Secondly this lip product, Nivea hydro lip balm ( with SPF 15.. fancy) I got this becsue all my other untinted lipblms have run out, and because I`m going to Scily in march (squeeeeee... I hope there will be georgous sunny photos up after..) I thought it would be best to protect my lips with SPF as I sunburn so easily and I don`t want that on my already damaged lips... And this one does what it says on the tin it moisturizes and protects my lips...

my Random favourites are just that... completely random...

I have been loving award shows... there have been two I could watch his month, the BAFTAs and the Brits... I love just watching different areas of music and film get awarded and recognized for their hard work... Amazing.

Secondly American comedy, comedy shows, like Baby Daddy and Marry Me and 2 Broke Girls, stuff just so mundane that you get attached to each character and as such just need to find out what happens to them... Not a good time to get addicted, especially as exams are close...

So this was just a short one, cause February is a shot-ass month, I hope you had a good month and let me know what you have been enjoying...

Love LadyoftheRivers x
